      According to Phyllis Varnum:

Mary Brock Slay Taylor is buried at Glenwood Cemetery in Chipley, Fl. She is in an unmarked grave in the lot of John Brown Slay. She is buried beside her son, John Brown Slay, who died 11 Dec., 1904. There is a baby grave on this lot which is also unmarked. This is a child of Mary Ann Reynolds and John Brown Slay. Offie Simpler is also buried on this lot. The lot is located to the right of the paved road just before the road curves to the right. The original lot was located in the edge of the paved area. Orrie Blackburn came to my father, John Brown Slay, son of Mary and John Brown, and got permission to move the graves in order to pave that street. Up until that time, it was just a two rut lane running through the cemetery. I remember this well as my cousin, Shirley Jenkins and myself used to go to the cemetery looking for her little sister who was buried in that cemetery.

The following is an email that I received on 02/26/2004 from Phyllis Varnum explaining the facts to support the family connections between John Slay's wives Sarah Ann and Elizabeth Brock.
      *******************************

      Elizabeth,

You indicated that there was some confusion as to whether or not Sarah Ann and Mary Ann Brock were sisters. The 1850 Thomas County, Ga Census records show the childred of Thomas and Susan Brock as: Elizabeth, Mary, William, Sarah.

The 1860 Jackson County Census also shows the children of Thomas P and Susan Brock as follows: Elizabeth, Mary, William, Ann, Adaline, Howell, Joshua, Thomas, Penny.

The will of Thomas P. Brock reads: I bequeth to my beloved wife Myanna Brock, all of my real and property of every kind and description wheresoever situated, for and during her natural life, if she should survive me. And at her death the remainder shall be divided as follows; to-wit; All of my children and grand children shall have an equal portion; that is to say that my grandchildren shall have the same portion that their parents father or mother would be entitled to if living at my death, except Sarah Ann Chance formerly Sarah Ann Slay, who shall have an equal portion with the children of Mary Taylor, (her half brothers and sisters) to come out of my daughter, Mary Taylors' portion.

      E. B. Chance , My Fathers first cousin and grandson of Sarah Ann Brock who lived with his mother Sarah Ann Slay Chance gave me the information that the two were sisters. There is no doubt in my mind of the relationship. The decendents of Rodian Elizabeth Brock Melvin also indicated the two were sisters.

I hope this helps in some way,

      Phyllis
